Getting a Summer Job
Finding and getting a job over the summer can be difficult. We have compiled all the best resources to make it just a little bit easier.
Job listings
Careers.govt.nz offers a really great region-specific list of job vacancy and recruitment websites. While moneyhub.co.nz has a great list of student-specific jobs and chain store’s listings. Between the two lists, they don’t leave out much. But if you can’t find anything you fancy on the websites listed, there’s also Indeed, Careerjet, Jooble and Glassdoor.
CV
Careers.govt.nz has a great explanation of what to include and some templates. Although, if you want a more artistic template and to stand out a bit more, Canva has some nice templates.
Cover letter
Start with your contact information, then their contact information, then appropriately addressing the recipient. If you do not know who the recipient is, address it “to whom it may concern”. Keep the writing formal, only include relevant information and keep it brief. Once again careers.govt.nz has a more detailed explanation.
Interview
There are a million differing articles on the internet telling you how to do interviews. We’re going to keep it brief — just dress well and don’t be unsociable. If you are the need-to-be-prepared type, moneyhub.co.nz has an article on the questions that you may be asked when being interviewed for student jobs and careers.govt.nz has many different resources for getting prepared for an interview.
This is really helpful thank you 🙏
